Performance study of interior field approximations in inverse scattering

In electromagnetic inverse scattering, the objective is to retrieve the medium parameters of a penetrable object from measured scattered field data. Since the medium parameters are to be found and unknown, the field within the object is not known either and ultimately this is the reason why the inverse scattering problem is nonlinear. In this project we investigate the quality of various inner field approximations that may be used to linearize and solve the inverse scattering problem. Specifically, Born, Pade, and Rytov inner field approximations are considered and their effectiveness in a number of applications is investigated.
